*This prayer is a beautiful response to the song “Not a Stranger” but also can serve as a good example to teach your congregation how to write collect-style prayers.  Consider using this to demonstrate and then invite people to write their own, incorporating their work and worship in prayer.*

O Christ,

You, who bore the agony of anxiety in Gethsemane with all love and courage,

Please come lift the burden that is too much for our hunched shoulders.

You intimately know the weight of our call,

   The sorrow of our souls,

      The darkness of our valley,

And by the glory of your resurrection

Which only comes after the death of the cross,

You can bring relief, comfort, and light.

Help us cling to you alone, Savior of the weighed down,

That others might see and find refuge with us

  In you alone.  Amen.
