FROM GRAND HAVEN, MI

Father,
It’s me, your beloved child.
Every effort to move forward seems like a battle right now.
Every step is against a headwind.
Every joyful thought is followed by a dark cloud.
Every attempt at progress seems to come with an anchor.

Why are things so difficult?

But I trust in your unfailing love.
I trust in the person and work of Jesus Christ
Who knows how I strain and struggle
Who sympathizes with my temptations
Who sees that I’m trying oh so hard.
I trust in Jesus who invites me to come to him in my weariness
To find rest
To find a burden that is light – one that I can actually carry!
I trust in your Spirit
The seal of my salvation
So that I don’t have to strive to earn my value
But am reminded that I bear your image
And I am yours!
Teach me to rest in these truths
To work diligently because I am deeply loved
And not to try to earn or prove my worthiness.
As you lead me more deeply into this freedom
Allow me to invite others – in word and deed – to find your peace as well.
In the name of Jesus. Amen.
